Film Väst’s co-production Gold Coast by Daniel Dencik in official competition at 50th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival that takes place July 3–11, 2015.
Danish documentary maker Daniel Dencik will present his first feature, Gold Coast, about a young anti-colonial idealist who sets out for Danish Guinea to set up a coffee plantation – but not everything goes to plan. The music is from David Lynch collaborator Angelo Badalamenti, the celebrated composer of the music in Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive.
Synopsis: The year is 1836. Danish botanist and visionary, Frederik Wulff, travels to Africa following orders from the king of Denmark. He is to monitor the work at a coffee plantation on the Gold Coast (now Ghana). The young Wulff writes about his desire to do good to his beloved Eleonora, but his best intentions and Christian belief is soon confronted with a harsh reality dominated by slave trade and unbelievable brutality.

DANIEL DENCIK:
Film editor, screenwriter and director. Born 1972, Sweden. Graduated in editing at the National Film School of Denmark, 1999. He is also a writer of poetry books and short stories. Has written and edited numerous awardwinning films, including Into Eternity (edit, 2010), Outside Love (script, 2007), Dark Horse (edit, 2005), and Noi the Albino (edit, 2003). Made his debut as feature documentary director with Moon Rider (2012), winner of the Reel Talent Award at CPH:DOX in 2012. Debuts as feature fiction film director with Gold Coast (2015). More here.
