För nionde året i rad har Film i Västs samproduktioner tagits ut i huvudtävlan, Official Competition, vid filmfestivalen i Cannes. I år är det Joachim Triers Sentimental Value, Tarik Salehs Eagles of the Republic och Oliver Hermanus The History of Sound. Att bli nominerad till huvudtävlan i Cannes och därmed vara med och slåss om den prestigefulla Guldpalmen står oerhört högt i den internationella filmvärlden. Det är också Film i Västs uttalade mål att ha med en samproduktion i Official Competition.
